The Wales has attracted considerable attention for its prewar facade, exquisite interiors designed by PINTO, and prime Upper East Side address. When sales launched in early 2022, the building recorded over $35 million in contracts in the span of two months. More recently, closings have commenced with a three-bedroom and a four-bedroom unit, both of which came in above ask.
A handful of current availabilities start at $3.635 million for two-bedrooms. Among them is a new construction penthouse with five bedrooms, five and a half baths, 4,179 interior square feet, a private wraparound terrace, a private roof terrace, and a $23 million listing price. Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost toured the penthouse in May 2022, and Sean Hayes toured it earlier this winter.
“Conceptualized and designed by the talented design firm PINTO of Paris, The Wales brilliantly blends an old-world aesthetic with modern touches and enduring quality” – Matthew Adell, Founder, Adellco
The commencement of closings marks the latest chapter in the saga of The Wales, which dates back to the early 20th century when the Neo-Renaissance building opened as the Hotel Chastaignery. The name changed multiple times over the hotel’s history before it became Hotel Wales. Developer Adellco purchased the building for $56.25 million in December 2018 and filed permits to convert it to residential use shortly after the sale closed.
